Why This Work Matters

We were never taught how to be men.

Look around at what happens without Great Men — look at what a society becomes when it's run by men who are adults in body but still boys inside.

What does that do to our culture, our women, our children?

Too many Australian men are struggling, carrying a great weight alone: a lifetime of suppressed emotion, intergenerational trauma, fathers in survival with no guide book and no Elders. The violence, abuse and self-destruction have to stop.

What most men need is a place — a nature-based place, a community, a circle where they can speak honestly, release the burdens and step into their power. To be tested. To be supported. To be nourished by the medicine of brotherhood.

It is our duty to pick up the pen and begin to craft a greater story for our future generations.

What story will our grandchildren's children tell about us?

The Gathering

Most men never get asked the real questions.

Great Men started as a handful of blokes around a firepit, tired of talking about how many of their mates were struggling. It's grown into a powerful camp — leaders, elders, tradesmen, fathers and sons — who set aside the noise for four days a year and do the harder, better work of showing up for each other. Sharpening themselves so they can be great men for their family, community and future generations.

No isolation. No performance. Just a clear mission, Elders keeping watch, and men willing to be seen.

What We Do

Essential Elements

The gathering is built on a few things done properly, not a hundred things done at half measure.

I

Fire & Story

Every night ends the same way it has for ten thousand years — around flame, telling the truth.

II

Wild Rites

A specialist pathway for boys (12+) to attend — guided by an expert team of Rites of Passage leaders alongside the men's work.

III

Wild Ground

No phones, no walls. The bush strips away the roles men perform everywhere else.

IV

Elders' Counsel

Men who've carried more years sit in circle, not on a stage — counsel earned, not lectured.

V

Eagle Eye

A crew that builds camp before you arrive and holds it after you leave — service as brotherhood.

VI

Ultimate Experience

Live music, fire-cooked hearty meals, camaraderie. Guided leaders and teachers who bring decades of experience.

Strictly an alcohol and drug free event

Masculine Leadership

Each man gets the opportunity to learn and reclaim aspects of his potential through experiential learning and expert guidance — the same fire that forges a Great Man.

Healthy masculinity is not a fixed checklist of traits, but a conscious practice of using your male energy, strength, and presence to protect, provide, and lift up those around you.

Responsibility & Purpose

A Great Man carries his weight without complaint — expressing his emotions honestly, owning his mistakes, and doing right even when nobody's watching. He lifts up the people around him, keeps his word, and looks after his own health so he has something left to give.

Physical Embodiment

Remember your connection to your own body through physical activities, primal movement and breath — embodiment isn't a concept here, it's a felt, physical state.

The conscious experience of living fully inside your physical body and senses.

Men's Circle

For thousands of years, men have circled up in council. We use the circle to orient ourselves, to witness one another, and to build the team work that turns lone wolves into brothers. Listening to other men is medicine.

Nature Based

Nature is a critical setting and teacher for stripping away modern distractions, grounding your nervous system, and confronting your true self. It moves you away from digital noise and societal roles, forcing you to rely on raw presence, instinct, and the elements to find clarity and strength.

The Framework

The core ingredients that create lasting inspiration and transformation for every man. Tried and true practices that promote embodied masculinity.

And we don't forget to enjoy!

We have plenty of fun surprises, including epic musicians, storytellers and other tricks.

Live music at camp — drummer mid-set

It's like 5 years of therapy in one weekend.

“The barrier towards men's healing is the willingness to ask for help. We experience isolation, lack of purpose, heartbreak, suppressed emotions, loss, addiction and so much more. The ripple of impact of a man who is separated from his heart is a dangerous person. I was radically aware of my loneliness and asking myself out loud,

“Where are my brothers?”

Who this is for

Men together at the river after a cold morning swim
This is for you if
  • You're at a threshold — becoming a father, navigating divorce, mourning a loss.

Sons & Fathers

Fathers and sons moving together on the grass

Boys, aged 12+, are welcome at Great Men when accompanied by their father or a guardian.

Alongside the men's program, the boys step into their own space — a stand-alone group held by dedicated Rites of Passage leaders.

Here they have room for their own practices, in their own secluded circle, away from the eyes of the men. But they don't stay separate the whole weekend. At key moments, the boys and the men come together for peak experiences — shared fire, shared challenge, shared story.

This is a rare and profound opportunity to support the healthy maturation of our boys as they prepare for manhood and, one day, fatherhood of their own. It's also a chance for something rarely offered anywhere else: deep healing and honouring between father figures and young men, held within the strength of a wider brotherhood that has walked this road before them.

If you're bringing your son, you're not just giving him a weekend away. You're giving him a beginning.

Our Philosophy

Why we created Great Men

Watch Full Video

We created Great Men because we know how many Australian men are struggling.

We know how many are carrying a great weight. A lifetime of suppressed emotion. Intergenerational trauma. Families that had to sacrifice. Fathers who gave up so much time with their children because they had to work — because they were living in survival.

We grew up in a country still writing its own culture. Still navigating the ramifications of how it was founded. Wherever we come from, our ancestors all carry a story. And the men of this country are carrying theirs mostly in silence.

Most men need a place. A nature-based place. A community. A circle — somewhere to speak about the trials and the tribulations of life, about what it actually means to be a man. To be held. To be nurtured. To be nourished by the medicine of brotherhood.

That was once upheld by religion. By sporting clubs. By community groups. Now we find men at home. In a cubicle. In a donger on a mine site. Isolated. Lonely. So disconnected they go looking for connection through a screen. And it is causing men great pain.

Too many men are suffering alone. Too many are taking their own lives — leaving families behind, leaving children without their fathers. This is a tragedy. And it is systemic. It comes from having no roots. No culture, or so little of it left. From growing up immersed in an environment that was never built for a man to flourish in — where he is not held by community, not loved by community, not loved by other men for exactly who he is.

We were meant to lift each other up. To help each other out. To remind one another how powerful each of us really is. This loneliness. This isolation. It's time we came back to what truly matters.

Back to the customs and traditions that have stood the test of time. Standing around the fire. Storytelling. Being witnessed in our emotion and our pain. Listening to one another. Moving our bodies. Being in nature. These things are older than our ancestors — they have been here since the beginning of time. We haven't lost them. We've just forgotten.

We've sat in circles. We've held workshops and retreats. We've been part of men's movements all over the world, and we know the stories of so many men who have done the same. And we still have a long way to go.

Western men have missed out on so much. Rites of passage. Initiation. Healthy masculine leaders and elders to walk beside us through the journey of a lifetime — becoming a man, being a father, becoming a grandfather. We are only figuring this out now.

There are great speakers, teachers and leaders on this planet sharing powerful philosophies about what it means to be a man. But in its essence, this is simple. It has always been simple. Come back to the elements. Come back to nature. Come back to each other.

So we created Great Men because we believe in the power of men coming together. We know the medicine that lives in men gathering on Country. For healing. For remembering. For the steady knowledge that you are not alone — that you were never meant to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders by yourself.

Our vision for Great Men is that it is never about one man. It is certainly not about any one of us. It is about the strength of one being the strength of another, and the strength of all of us. It's about softness and strength, held in the same body.

And how do we do that? We do it together. Each man contributing to this moving, living, breathing community that is Great Men. No man above another. No man below another. Encircled. In harmony. In synergy. Working toward the same thing — more wholeness, more harmony, more support, more unity, more community.

Because men standing shoulder to shoulder is what will change our families, our communities, and the world.
